We use Gamelan music (http://www.musicmall-asia.com/malaysia/classical/gamelan.html) to treat spastic children in The Spastic Children school by staff of the Dept of Neurosciences ,Hospital University Sains Malaysia with Professor Ghouse a musician (http://ernd.usm.my/journal/journal/01_173E_Music1.pdf)

We wonder whether there are any other groups out there doing similar research.

I would like to start a discussion on NMT-neurologic music therapy.
I recenty trained with the pioneer in this type of therapy and was very impressed.

Herm Holtz theory, is on hearing. Not on 'appreciation' of music (which happens to be special sequence of frequencies of sound :-)

I remember reading Herman Helholtz's On the Sensations of Tone many years ago. He had some incredibly interesting (19th century) ideas!

Just new to the group. Had been wondering how and why we get 'interested' in sound frequencies given in a particular sequence and rythm...:-)

I just spent two days at the Louis Armstrong Music Therapy Program. The staff there are very talented. I found alot of cool techniques to use with my patients in the brain gym. I can't wait to go back in December.
