This case is a complex craniovertebral anomaly with Chiari, small posterior fossa,absent cisterna magna, platebasia, so calloed fixed AAD and syrinx.only posterior fossa decompression failed to improved syrinx and ? Patinet.

hi everyone i'm a medical student now taking a year off doing a masters in neuroscience. I have a passion for neurosurgery and have spent a couple of months in a neurosurgical unit doing research and clinical studies. I will graduate in 2013. Judging by your statements most of you are already neurosurgeons so my question would be is anyone willing to give me any advice as to how I prepare my portfolio in order to increase my chances of getting into a training programme. thanks.

Neurosurgeons, please? I have a 63-year-old man who presented with easy forgetfulness; otherwise, he is completely normal. His brain CT scan is consistent with normal pressure hydrocephalus. Do you operate on such patients, or watchful waiting would suffice?

Rightly said, Arshad! With the stigma attached to the term "psychosurgery" from the infamous frontal lobotomy era (circa 1940s), terms like psychosurgery or psycho-neurosurgery have been abandoned and gradually replaced by the relatively benign "behavior surgery". It's a whole new field of neurosurgery. Stereotaxy on the other hand is a "technique" to do surgery. It's biggest application, no doubt *is* in functional neurosurgery whether it is to make lesions in the brain or to implant electrodes to stimulate certain areas.

Dear Olga, it is called "pyscho-neurosurgery" which means certain psychological disorder can be treated by surgery preferably by Stereotactic technique. I hoe it clairfy your query. Dr Nasir may alborate more on this as he is working on Functional Stereotaxy.

Welcome everybody to Neurosurgery Discussion Group. It will be much more useful for all to post their querries as well as ideas here to share with the rest of the group. Also, we can later subgroup into other branches of neurosurgery like neurotrauma, neurovascular surgery, skull base, spine, functional neurosurgery etc. For a start, I have created a Functional Neurosurgery Discussion Group (it is a branch where neurosurgical procedures are undertake for functional reasons like tremors, spasticity, epilepsy, pain, psychiatric illness etc). Those who are interested are welcome to join there as well.
